Part of your community since 1971

Can you believe 'Glenfield Shopping Mall' has been part of your community for 40 years?  Opened on 9 November 1971, the original centre was only two levels, had 35 shops, including Haywrights, McKenzies, Foodtown, a Post Office, a dentist, solicitor and medical laboratory.

It covered a total of seven acres, had parking for 60 cars and boasted limited Saturday trading.

It was the first all-enclosed shopping centre on the North Shore and even featured a 'futuristic' cage that housed more than 100 multi-colour budgies.

Remember this guy?

He was part of the kids play area in the original "Glenfield Shopping Mall" and since his retirement thirty years ago, he has been living happily on a lifestyle block in Albany.  He is still in his original condition and well looked after by his owners.  He had three friends with him when he lived in the mall - we would love to know where they are now.  If you have any information, please let us know at glenfield@nz.westfield.com.
