Can you believe 'Glenfield Shopping Mall' has been part of your community for 40 years? Opened on 9 November 1971, the original centre was only two levels, had 35 shops, including Haywrights, McKenzies, Foodtown, a Post Office, a dentist, solicitor and medical laboratory.

It covered a total of seven acres, had parking for 60 cars and boasted limited Saturday trading.

It was the first all-enclosed shopping centre on the North Shore and even featured a 'futuristic' cage that housed more than 100 multi-colour budgies.
He was part of the kids play area in the original "Glenfield Shopping Mall" and since his retirement thirty years ago, he has been living happily on a lifestyle block in Albany. He is still in his original condition and well looked after by his owners. He had three friends with him when he lived in the mall - we would love to know where they are now.
