The Cue Winter.16 collection is not so much of a statement, but more of a clue to the exact embodiment of youth culture: finding new life in forms of expression. Classic styles appear – the fifties coat, the sixties mini skirt, the seventies trouser – pieces that denote particular moments in time, but are by no means self-consciously retro and more in sync with what is happening on the street right now. The edge is strictly modern, with not a drip of nostalgia present.
A strong sartorial element weaves through the collection, via tailored coating, cuffed trousers and stepped hems, and translates into jackets and pants worn together as matching sets; skinny ties and bows on soft shirting allude to classic menswear neckties. Feminine flourishes provide a seamless contrast by way of flute sleeves on A-line dresses, lace shirting and off the shoulder highlights.
A colour palette of black and white dominates, elevated from simple monochrome through its application in pattern and print: Prince of Wales checks, mini houndstooth, herringbone and tartan. Sprinkles of green, accents of burgundy and flashes of tan and yellow add a jolt of colour contrast. Shots of lurex add a touch of understated glam.
Accessories complement the collection with ease, as pretty, gritty and utility all come to the fore: oversized brooches with colourful gemstones, leather wrap cuffs, and sling-and-go bags.
