Say hello to the fresh fruit now in season

Apples

All year
Make the most of this season’s mouth-watering Australian apples. Enjoy this incredibly versatile fruit on the go, in the lunchbox or in a dish or dessert. Apples are packed with vitamins, antioxidants and fibre.

How to pick
Choose apples with smooth, firm skin. There's no wax added to the applies so remember, shininess of the skin isn’t an indicator of quality.

How to use
Bite, slice, grate, bake, blend – the options are endless with apples. Pop an apple in your lunchbox for a snack. Toss sliced apple in a summer salad, make a sauce, or bake an apple dessert, pie or cake for a sweet treat. Too tricky? Simply add apple to a cheese platter as they pair perfectly.

How to store
Keep your apples crisp by storing them in the fridge. They’ll last refrigerated for up to 4 weeks.

Mandarins

April - October
Sweet tasting, juicy and easy-to-peel. You'll find everything from the perfect snack for kids, to varieties suited to salads and baking.

How to pick
Choose mandarins that feel heavy for their size and avoid soft, wrinkly or discoloured skin.

How to use
Mandarins make the perfect snack on-the-go and lunchbox addition. Try mandarins in fresh salads, healthy baking or decadent desserts.

How to store
Store in a dry, cool place out of direct sunlight.

Bananas

May - February
They always have a great taste and texture. What’s more they provide fibre, potassium, Vitamin B6 and Vitamin C. These nutrients are good for your heart, nervous system, skin and immunity, among other benefits.

How to pick
Yellow bananas are ripe and ready to eat now. Green bananas are unripe and will be ready in a few days.

How to use
Ripe bananas are perfect by themselves – just peel off the skin and enjoy. Over-ripe bananas are perfect for smoothies, banana bread and cakes.

How to store
Keep bananas at room temperature or freeze overripe bananas. If you refrigerate bananas they will stop ripening, but their skins will go black and quality will deteriorate.

Blueberries

All year
They have a beautiful tangy and sweet flavour. Not only that, blueberries are good for you so add fresh blueberries today to lunchboxes, platters, or your breakfast cereal.

How to pick
Choose plump, bright blueberries which are firm and have a whitish sheen.

How to use
Try adding blueberries to your favourite yoghurt, blitz them into a smoothie or bake in cakes and muffins.

How to store
Always keep blueberries in the fridge. Don’t wash them until you’re ready to use them. Blueberries are also great to freeze – simply store in an airtight container or zip-lock bag.
