You will have noticed a significant number of orange road cones and workers in hi-vis vests around Westfield Newmarket shopping centre.
Work is being undertaken to upgrade services and improve the utilities network in the Newmarket area.
To assist you with future visits to Newmarket we wanted to inform you of recent roading and access changes.
New Traffic Lights and Pedestrian Interchange
Works are being carried out to realign the roads, create new traffic lights on the corner of Gillies Ave and Mortimer Pass, and install a pedestrian crossing. The new traffic signals are due for completion by early December.
Despite the weather delaying progress we have been advised by the contractor undertaking works, that as of Monday 16 October vehicles will once again be able to turn right from Gillies Avenue into Mortimer Pass.
The number of road cones will also be significantly reduced.
The new traffic lanes and signalling will be complete by early December.
Mortimer Pass changes
From Monday 16 October there will be no access to Broadway from Mortimer Pass for approximately three weeks.
Instead vehicles visiting Westfield Newmarket, Highwic House and Farmers will be re-routed through Coventry Lane to Broadway.
This is due to storm water pit installation, relocation of gas lines and the creation of a new waste water system at the Broadway and Mortimer Pass junction.
Carparks remain open at Westfield Newmarket and Farmers
You can continue to enter and exit the car park at either Mortimer Pass or Morrow St.
However, there may be small delays at peak times due external roading works around Newmarket and the wider area.
Scentre Group, the owner of Westfield Newmarket continues to consider plans for a potential development of Westfield Newmarket.
As soon as these plans have been finalised we will share these with you.
