Celebrate Diwali at Westfield Manukau

Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is one of the biggest festivals celebrated in India and around the world. In 2026, Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November.

Celebrated over five days, Diwali is an important festival for Hindus, Jains and Sikhs. It symbolises the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness, and is a time for reflection, renewal, gratitude, family and community.

Traditions include cleaning and decorating homes with lights and colourful patterns, wearing new clothes, exchanging gifts and preparing special meals to share with loved ones.

Diwali is celebrated over five days, with each day holding its own significance:

Dhanteras: The beginning of Diwali celebrations, traditionally marked by cleaning homes and welcoming Goddess Lakshmi. It is also customary to purchase gold and new kitchen utensils.

Naraka Chaturdashi / Choti Diwali: Also known as Little Diwali, this day is celebrated with colourful Rangoli artwork created at the entrances of homes, alongside the lighting of firecrackers.

Diwali: The main day of celebrations, when homes are illuminated with lamps and lights, symbolising the victory of light over darkness.
