We receive hundreds of nominations every year. Our heroes’ stories stand out from the crowd by simply capturing the essence of an individual who is making a positive impact to their local community or environment. Here are some tips to help you submit an outstanding nomination.

The information you will be asked in the nomination form:

  • What is the Westfield centre closest to where your nominee’s work or activities occur.
  • Your nominee’s full name and contact details, the organisation or group they represent, and how you know them.
  • How the nominee positively impacts the local community in one of the following areas: family and youth support, health and wellbeing, inclusion and equity, community resilience, environment sustainability (200 words).
  • Why you believe they are a Westfield Local Hero (25 words).
  • Confirm that you have spoken to your nominee and they consent to be contacted as part of the Westfield Local Heroes program.
  • Read and agree to the Westfield Local Heroes Terms and Conditions.

Describing why this person is a local hero to you

Ask yourself: How does this person make a positive impact to the community or environment? What are the activities or actions that make the nominee stand out to you? What qualities do they have that makes them a positive role model? What have they accomplished that goes above and beyond the norm? Have they overcome challenges, hardship or adversity to succeed? What motivated you to nominate this person? Why do they inspire others? P.S. You can nominate as many individual heroes as you like.

Use real examples

Writing about real life examples that demonstrate why your nominee is a local hero is more informative for us than providing a formal job description or website biography. Try to paint a picture of your nominee by sharing their story and examples of how they have positively impacted another person's life or the environment and try to keep your sentences concise and avoid repetition.

Who will see my nomination?

Your nominee will be sent the nomination you submit. The nomination will also be seen by our selection panel – made up of team members from across our business and occasionally local community or retail partners.

Selection criteria

Our selection panels are looking for individuals who are positive role models who are respected and trusted in the community. Use your own words to describe your nominee so we get to know them through your eyes. Their work must positively impact the community or environment of a Westfield centre. They must represent an organisation or group, and the grant must be spent in a way that benefits the local community or environment of a Westfield centre.

As we receive nominations from across Australia and New Zealand, between April and August we are busy reviewing and discovering the hundreds of local heroes in our communities.
