At Westfield, we know our centres are more than just shopping hubs. They are lifestyle destinations where people come to connect, share and inform.
We cultivate spaces that are inclusive and welcoming, which our communities are proud to call their own; and we contribute to the social wellbeing and cohesion of our local regions through a number of programs and services. It is through this commitment that we deliver our purpose of creating extraordinary places, connecting and enriching communities.
Westfield Local Heroes
Westfield Local Heroes is a community recognition and grants program, connecting and enriching local communities.
The community nominates and votes for the individuals who they believe promote social wellbeing and harmony in their communities, across one or more of the three social values of Family, Youth Opportunity and Inclusion. The affiliated organisation of every successful Westfield Local Hero receives a $10,000 grant to support their work, program or activities.
2018 was the first year of the Westfield Local Heroes program, and we received an overwhelming response and many heart-warming stories after asking the local community to nominate individuals who they believe promote social wellbeing and harmony in their communities.
We have continued to work with many of the Westfield Local Heroes since they were awarded their $10,000 grants in September last year.
Nominations for the 2019 Westfield Local Heroes program opens on Tuesday 19 March. More information will be provided here in coming weeks.
We work closely with key local organisations, groups and individuals to discover, celebrate and contribute to those things that are relevant and meaningful to the local community. We also invite customer and community insights via face-to-face, phone and digital channels.
At Westfield we work with our community partners to celebrate cultural diversity, inclusion, family and history. We support initiatives that encourage respect and understanding through experience, and we aim to be an essential and integral part of the community.
Our community partners include:
- Maia Health Foundation to help raise money for critical health services in Christchurch and to provide a platform to improve awareness of the charity
- Community Development Network Trust who help with disadvantaged youth and their families in the Christchurch area
- Dress for Success to empower women to achieve economic independence through work
Contributing to our local communities
We provide a dedicated space in all Westfield centres for community-focused groups (i.e. not-for-profit sports groups, community groups, charities and welfare organisations) to connect with people in the local area.
And our staff are passionate about giving back and we support them to do this in a variety of ways through Workplace Giving and Volunteering. For more information on any of our programs or services, please contact us.
